Google may be checking
the renewal date of your
domain name.

New evidence has come to light that suggests the search engine giant Google, may now be checking the expiry dates of website domain names.

It's an interesting development in the ongoing war against search engine spam. It's assumed that Google could now be giving priority to websites that renew their domain names up front for a number a years, as opposed to those that renew annually. The logic is quite straight forward. People who launch websites for a quick buck will rarely register a name for much longer than a year at a time.

The new evidence has come in the form of a patent that the search engine has recently filed. Although the patent does not give specific details of how websites are ranked, it does allow search engine professionals to make some very reasonable assumptions as to what is going on.

It's important to remember that there are many other factors which can affect a website's search engine position. However, if you want to be one of the first to seize the opportunity, then make sure Google can see that you have a domain that's going to stick around.
